Deir el-Medina

Deir el-Medina was the village inhabited by the artisans in the New Kingdom who were employed in the construction of the tombs in the Valleys of the Kings and of the Queens.
Queen Ahmose Nefertari, wife of the founder of the New Kingdom, was venerated for centuries, especially by the artisans who lived in Deir el-Medina. She is not to be confused with Queen Nefertari, wife of Ramesses II, whose tomb was largely looted in antiquity, but many of the remaining finds are shown here.
